GARDENING TIPS FOR JULY AND AUGUST

  • Plant out summer bedding and keep moist in dry weather
  • Stake tall perennials to prevent wind damage to flower spikes
  • Sweetpeas need training and tying to their support canes to encourage them to climb and create a beautiful display
  • Liquid feed your pots and containers every 2-4 weeks
  • Keep tubs, baskets and beds well-watered (use collected rain water wherever possible)
  • Continue to protect lillies, delphiniums and other susceptible plants from slugs and snails
  • If you want to grow your own spring bedding for next year, many flowers (including pansies) should be sown now in order to bloom next spring
